DUBAI – Passenger traffic at Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest, will not recover to pre-Covid-19 levels before 2024, its CEO said today.

Traffic remains “nowhere near pre-pandemic levels” despite rising to 29.1 million passengers last year, Dubai Airports chief Paul Griffiths said in an interview.

BUSINESS Conditions Index (BCI) for the fourth quarter of 2021 (4Q21) indicates that manufacturers have begun to regain confidence, said The Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER).

According to the research outfit, the 4Q21 index showed a positive outlook, rising by 25 points to settle at 122, well above the 100-point threshold. The index increased by 6.6 points on a year-on-year basis compared to 4Q20.

THE government will intensify efforts in improving market access and opportunities to help micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) increase sales internationally.

The retail industry in Malaysia has been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in the third quarter (3Q) due to the movement control orders (MCO) leading to a fall in consumption.

Retail Group Malaysia (RGM) stated the retail sector recorded a -27.8% drop in third-quarter sales compared to the same period last year.

: As the festival of lights, Deepavali was ushered in, The Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) is looking towards an aggressive ‘jump start’ to boost its embattled hospitality industry.

With bookings for rooms and social events strongly picking up, MAH has urged the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (MOTAC) to provide greater financial aid to the industry as a booster.

MAH Penang chapter chairman Raj Kumar Karuppiah told The New Straits Times that the RM60 million promotional activity and domestic tourism fund announced at the Dewan Rakyat under 2022 Budget last Friday, was a far cry to stimulate the grief-stricken industry following the global Covid-19 pandemic since the beginning of last year.
